What Remains of Edith Finch is a bizarre game and hard to explain just why you should give it a look.
It’s a narrative driven exploration game, which I know to many people sounds awful but if you can get past your initial reaction and take a look at the game I’m sure most of you will enjoy what you find.
The story at the center of the game is about the multiple tragedies that have befallen the Finch family. Across multiple generations misfortune has continually struck the family and as you navigate the absurdly constructed home you get to see/control the various members of the family as they meet their end. Some of these segments are downright bizarre, such as when a little girl appears to shape shift while others are pretty touching, such as a man taking his daughter on a camping/hunting trip. While some segments are definitely stronger than others I can’t say that any of them are outright bad and all add to the experience of learning about this ill-lucked family.
If by chance you lack the desire to play the game yourself but still want to see it (the game is only about 2 hours long) I’ve taken the liberty of posting the entire game right here, beneath these words.
