PolyNerdic Play Test: Thumper

Thumper is a “rhythm violence” game that recently released on the PS4 during the launch of the Playstation VR.

While I lack the funds (or desire for motion sickness) to pick up the PSVR rig I was excited to see this interesting title would be available to play like a regular old fashioned video game.

There is no story to Thumper.

It’s just you controlling a scarab shaped craft as it zooms along a predetermined track, using timed control inputs to dodge various obstacles and occasionally fire off a blast of energy at a boss entity of one sort or another.

The music is fantastic, setting the mood as it pounds out an oppressive beat as you zip along the trippy environment.

It’s altogether an experience I’ve never had before and absolutely loved.
